Start here: For Aiken and South Carolina vehicle owners, policy appraisal may offer a process for an eligible disagreement about loss amount. Start with the actual policy and a clear description of the dispute.
What appraisal may do
A policy appraisal provision can provide a structured way to evaluate a qualifying disagreement over loss amount. The NAIC advises consumers who disagree about claim value to check their policy for an appraisal clause. It is an option to investigate, not an automatic promise of more money.
Check these points before starting
- Does your policy contain the provision? Obtain the full form and endorsements for the loss date.
- What disagreement does it address? Ask whether the clause can apply to your particular repair-cost or valuation dispute.
- How is it invoked? Check written-demand requirements, deadlines and any other conditions.
- Who can act? Read the qualifications and selection rules for appraisers and any umpire.
- What does it cost? Obtain the professional’s written fee terms and any shared process costs.
- What effect will the result have? Ask an appropriate independent professional to explain the provision and available legal options.
What appraisal should not be assumed to solve
Do not assume it decides every coverage issue, fault dispute, injury claim or question about legal rights. Whether particular items can be considered depends on the policy and applicable law. It is also not the same process as South Carolina’s automobile property-damage liability arbitration described by the Department of Insurance.
Your own insurer or another driver’s insurer?
A clause in your insurance contract does not automatically create an appraisal right against another driver’s carrier. Identify whose coverage is involved before choosing a dispute process. Independent legal advice can help when the issue goes beyond evaluating the vehicle damage.
What Big Chris Collision contributes
Our role is the vehicle side: damage photographs, measurements, scan findings, repair research and an itemized plan within the authorized scope. We can help organize that file for a professional you retain. An appraiser or attorney decides whether they can assist and explains their own fees and terms.
Start with one question
“Can you show me exactly what is disputed and which part of my policy explains the next step?” Bring both estimates to a consultation. We cannot guarantee an appraisal award, a legal recovery or that every repair charge will be paid.
