Start here: Yes. South Carolina’s Department of Insurance tells consumers they can have their vehicle repaired at the shop they choose. Ask about payment details before authorizing work.
A recommendation is a starting point
An adjuster may suggest a repair facility or network. The South Carolina DOI’s auto FAQ explains that you can select a different shop, while also explaining that claim payment is evaluated using market pricing. Shop choice and agreement about the bill need separate attention.
How to communicate your choice
You can say: “I have selected Big Chris Collision in Aiken. Please explain the next inspection or estimate step, and send any claimed restriction or payment limitation in writing.” Ask how to submit the repair plan and supporting records. Continue to meet applicable claim duties; selecting a shop is not a reason to ignore requests or deadlines.
Do not let a network label make your decision
Big Chris Collision recommends an independent repairer accountable to the vehicle owner, with the training, equipment and documentation to support its work. We do not participate in insurer DRPs. If the claim conversation makes a network assignment sound mandatory, read Can I choose a shop out of network? before agreeing to move your vehicle.
Questions worth asking any shop
- How do you research the repair requirements for my vehicle?
- Who will explain the parts, repair methods and proposed charges?
- What scans, inspections or calibrations need evaluation?
- Who performs work that is coordinated with another provider?
- What written warranty applies, and who provides it?
- How will you tell me about additional damage or costs?
Understand the financial side
Choosing a shop does not guarantee that an insurer will pay its entire invoice. Request a written explanation of disputed charges, possible out-of-pocket costs, storage and rental arrangements. An insurer’s network promise does not replace your repairer’s written warranty or establish that the repair follows manufacturer requirements. Ask for the actual terms.
Why some owners choose our Aiken shop
Big Chris Collision is independent and owner-operated. We explain our manufacturer-based repair approach, genuine OEM parts and documentation before authorization. You can ask Chris questions directly and decide whether the approach is right for your vehicle.
Already at another shop?
Before arranging a move, clarify any authorization you signed, work performed, charges due, release arrangements and towing needs. Ask for the file and a written explanation of costs. We can discuss receiving the vehicle, but cannot promise that transferring it will be free or resolve an existing dispute.
